I had some time so I did a study of all the recent QBs taken in the first rounds of drafts going back to 2010.

Here are the QBs who were taken within the firat five picks of the draft:

2023
1) Bryce Young
2) CJ Stroud
4) Anthony Richardson

2022
none The only QB taken in the first round was Kenny Pickett at #22

2021
1) Trevor Lawrence
2) Zach Wilson
3) Trey Lance

2020
1) Joe Burrow
5) Tua

2019
1) Kyler Murray

2018
1) Baker Mayfield
3) Sam Darnold

2017
2) Mitch Trubisky

2016
1) Jared Goff
2) Carson Wentz

2015
1) Jameis Winston
2) Marcus Mariotta

2014
3) Blake Bortles

2013
none EJ Manuel (16) was the only QB taken in the first round

2012
1) Andrew Luck
2) Rbrt Griffin III

2011
1) Cam Newton

2010
1) Sam Bradford

Pretty pathetic hit rate for guys who were highly acclaimed for their respective drafts. Take whatever Minny is offering for #3. Fill in the O line, WR, TE. Let Brissett start in 2024, suck, and get a high pick again next year along with the one Minny gives you. Build around the QB first.

Some team is going to offer Chicago the farm just like Carolina did last year, which the only reason the Bears currently hold the 1st overall pick, which was originally the Panthers’s

Chicago would be foolish to not accept a similar offer this year, picking up another teams 1st Rounder next year, while swapping this years & still picking high enough to land one of the other top QBs, and then still have their own #9 pick too

Hey Michel you take the chance on missing a Stroud, Lawrence, Burrow, Newton. Also don't forget Mahomes taken with the 10th pick. See your point though some duds in there no doubt. One thing for sure Brissett a Backup QB in this league. Will be interesting to see what NE does.

Sounds like Chicago is now more concerned with the backlash they’ll receive based on ‘what-if” instead of accepting no-brainer deals

How much better are the top 3 QBs than Pennix? I'm no expert, but Pennix looked great to me when I saw him. If a team was able to trade down and still get Pennix then that seems like better value than just picking one of the top QBs (assuming Pennix is just as good as Williams/Daniels/Maye).

Think they just highly value Williams

He does seem like the best prospect, but it feels more like a Trevor Lawrence type of draft for QB's

So there have been 21 QBs taken in the top five draft picks for each year since 2010.

The only ones that would have been worth not trading down for a bag of high draft picks would have been:

Stroud (school is really still out)
Burrow
Goff
Luck

The guys who went at #3 in the last 14 years?

Trey Lance
Sam Darnold
Blake friggin Bortles

That's less than a one in five chance.

Minny is reportedly offering their 11th and 23rd in this year's draft and their first in next year's draft for the Patriot's #3 pick. I'll bet the Pts could squeeze another pick out of them too.

As bad as Brissett is he is not as bad as half the Patriots offensive line nor any of their receivers or tight ends. The Patriot cupboard is bare! I say build from the line out. Get guys who can block for the run and pass. Now get one of the deep group of wide receivers in this year's draft. Expect a shit year with Brissett and those other incomplete offensive positions. Then with your two #1s next year fill in the offense.

Next year's QB can come from free agency or the draft.

Honestly, I wanted the Pats to get Fields (a lousy sixth round pick!!!) and follow the above trade down plan. I think he's maturing. He would have been a hell of a lot better than Brissett. And the Pats could use this year to evaluate him and go after their QB next year if they didn't like his progress / promise.

Those are my thoughts.

If Daniels is there count your blessings

I would not trade him for 5 1st round picks

You think that just because other 3rd picks of the draft was bust that means Daniels is a bust ?

Thats would people said last year about stroud from Ohio St

Everyone said all QBs at OSU is a bust so stroud is a bust to

I don’t give a shit if Trey Lance or Blake Bortalls sucked

has nothing to do with Daniels

Daniels may end up being the best QB. Him or Williams

But it sounds like Washington will take him at #2

Yeah good points. NE should have traded for Fields I agree as his upside his way higher than Brissett's imo. Then a trade with MInn would have made sense for sure. Like I wrote it will be interesting to see what your NE does. Good Luck.

We don't know who's going to be a bust until they are a bust. Nobody intentionally drafts a bust, they think they're doing the right thing.

Chances are 2 out of 3 of the top QB's would be a bust, and that's the point my man Mikey is making. We think we can identify those intangibles, but history has proven we can't.

I agree with the poster that said the Patriots should have gone after Fields. I think he's shown flashes. The Bears may be making two mistakes in this draft :)

The 2 teams that are likely to trade up into the top 5 for a QB are minnesota and denver. raiders might be a possibility also.

To be honest I still have no clue how Bryce Young was taken above CJ Stroud

I was saying this before the draft

I understand how so much of this is random, but there literally was no rationale to take Young over Stroud

Not just the size thing, but Stroud was just clearly better if you actually watched both of them a decent amount
